Meanwhile... at GRAPHIC CONTENT! (#3) | A Talk About Color, Not Colorists, Color
Thursday May 04, 2017
Thursday May 04, 2017
In this special, short episode of Meanwhile at Graphic Content, Jim talks about some sensitive subject matter. A friend of the show recently pointed out to Jim that he made a comment in Episode 10 (Iron Fist in Comics) around the 26-minute mark that was really flat-out wrong despite the intent behind it. The clip of that portion of that conversation can be found in this episode, as well as Jim's thoughts on being so thoughtless. His apology.
We hope you stick with us, we have a lot of great stuff lined-up (in our opinion) in the near-future of the show. If you have comments that you'd like to send our way on this, or any other topic in the comics industry, please don't hesitate to do so. Short-form you can hit us up on Twitter @graphicpodcast, or long-form by way of our email address, thereal.graphiccontent@gmail.com. We're also on Instagram @graphiccontent.podcast...
...so. Until our next show drops, we hope you enjoy the comics that you're reading, and that you have a good night.

Graphic Content Podcast Episode 12 | Jon Morris Interview!
Thursday Apr 27, 2017
Thursday Apr 27, 2017
Jim's flying solo this week as he interviews Jon Morris, author of an outstanding look at the superheroes from comics history that failed to gain any kind of readership when they came out. This volume covers everything from the earliest days of the Golden Age, to characters published just 10 or so years ago. This book really does have it all: from the character that inspired Iron Fist's origin story, to an obese superhero who can turn into a flying saucer to fight crime. Yes, you heard that right, an obese superhero who had the power to turn into a flying saucer to fight crime. Madness!
(And that's not even including the guy who's an immortal biochemist who fought Nazis with his mastery over human hormones)
There's rarely been a book that could be devoured in a single reading, or just flipped to a random page to enjoy Morris' take on a character that just failed to launch. This is one of those rare books that really does have it all for readers interested in the obscure parts of comics history written in a tounge-firmly-planted-in-cheek way that doesn't overpower the description at all. And the conversation with the author left Jim (me) wanting more. It's a good thing there's a sequel out there called LEGION OF REGRETTABLE SUPERVILLAINS out there, we might just have to talk again ;-)
Here's a link to his amazing book:

Graphic Content Podcast Episode 11 | Creator-Owned Comics Pt. 2
Thursday Apr 20, 2017
Thursday Apr 20, 2017
Jim and Adam reconvene to talk about more creator-owned comics, from Jim's love of real-world thrillers like Greg Rucka's QUEEN AND COUNTRY and to Adam's love of Ted McKeever's PLASTIC FORKS from 1993. Yeah, they cover quite the range of titles, alongside more titles from even more grounded "real world" titles to sci-fi westerns. If you're looking to broaden your comics pallete, then we humbly suggest this podcast for you. Oh, and it pairs nicely with the recently published "Lost Episode" which is the first part of their continuing discussion on titles outside the superhero slugfests of DC & Marvel.
So, do you have books that you'd recommend us to take a look at? We'd love to hear from you! We're on Twitter @graphicpodcast, as well as on Facebook at facebook.com/graphicpodcast (please "LIKE" the page, we're desperate for approval). We hope to hear from you soon.
So until then, go read some comics! And when you're done with those, please listen to GRAPHIC CONTENT!

Thursday Apr 20, 2017
Thursday Apr 20, 2017
Episode 7, the so-called "Lost Episode" is finally here! Jim and Adam have their first discussion on creator-owned comics that they're fans of. Some of the comics talked-about are books in current publication, others from Jim's teenaged years (also known as the time before Adam was born). Yes, Jim finally gets to talk about his undying love for Jim Starlin's DREADSTAR much to Adam's chagrin. If anything, it makes for an interesting podcast for us to record.
The Graphic Content Podcast records the conversations about comics between two guys from two different generations, and how much they actually in common about this special medium. If you'd like to join in on the conversation ,we'd love to have you! Tuesday Apr 11, 2017

In the second part (or our first "Point One" episode) of our look at Marvel's Iron Fist, the guys take a long, hard look at his debut season on Netflix. Graphic Content Podcast Episode 10 | Iron Fist in Comics!
Tuesday Apr 11, 2017
Tuesday Apr 11, 2017
In Episode 10, Jim & Adam talk about Iron Fist from his origins as a Marvel Comics Superhero born in the fires of the Martial Arts explosion of the 1970's, to how he was laid-low in the 1980's, to how he was reborn in the 1990's, and finally how he became a critically-acclaimed character in the late 2000's. Yep, Iron Fist has had a pretty interesting life in comics and the guys have fun talking about all of the ups and downs Danny Rand-K'ai has seen over the years. We hope you like it too!
Originally intended to be a half of a single-episode leading into their review of the Marvel/Netflix Iron Fist series, the conversation about the character took up the majority of the episode. So instead of posting a 3+ hour long mega-episode, check out our first "POINT ONE" right after this one to get the guys' take on it which will be posted right after this one. Trust us when we say that we definitely have some things to say about the show, and some of the controversy surrounding it!
As always, we would love to hear from you the listener! You can always contact us via Twitter @graphicpodcast, on Facebook at facebook.com/graphicpodcast, and on Instagram @graphiccontent.podcast. Graphic Content Podcast Episode 9 | So, about Gabriel and Alonso...
Tuesday Apr 04, 2017
Tuesday Apr 04, 2017
Jim and Adam had originally planned to talk all things Iron Fist: his creation by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, to the critically-acclaimed run by writers Ed Brubaker & Matt Fraction with artist extraordinaire David Aja, all the way to the recently-release Marvel/Netflix series. We were going to talk about all that, but something came-up. Namely some people's comments came-up, and those were by both Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso and SVP-Sales David Gabriel. Yup, this is the first episode of GCP to weigh-in on an internet controversy about the comics industry, and the guys set the rant-o-meter to 11 on it!
The Graphic Content Podcast is a frank, sometimes NSFW podcast on comics whether it be characters, different books, or (as it is in this case) news about the comics industry. The opinions expressed in this episode are solely those of Jim (@jimmmers) & Adam (@AdamSMessinger), and do not necessarily reflect those of the comics stores they frequent or work at. With that disclaimer out of the way, we hope you enjoy their seat-of-their-pants viewpoints on what was said at Marvel's Retailer Summit last week, and their opinions on what the Mouse's House of Ideas should focus on going forward from it.
Remember, GCP is available to you in a variety of formats. Download it from Podbean, the podcast's host site. Or from iTunes, where if you rate/review it we'd be eternally grateful. And you can pretty much download it from a myriad of other podcatchers like Stitcher and Soundcloud. Beyond that, we'd just love to hear what you thought of the episode. Either hit us up on the guys' individual twitter accounts, or the podcast's which can be found @graphicpodcast. We're also on instagram where you can find us @graphiccontent.podcast where we post all kinds of fun stuff.
So when you're done reading your comics, make sure to turn on Graphic Content!

Meanwhile... at GRAPHIC CONTENT! | Tangents
Thursday Mar 30, 2017
Thursday Mar 30, 2017
So, as those of you who've been following the show for a bit now might've noticed, something Adam says sets Jim down memory lane. What's great about it is that it makes for interesting conversation between the two of us. The downside is that it really digresses from the point of the show that we're recording at athe time -- in this instance our episode on our picks Top 5 Marvel Books. In this relatively short MEANWHILE episode, Adam triggers the nostalgia center of Jim's brain sending him back to comics like the wonderful DC/Marvel "X-Men/New Teen Titans" crossover from waaaaay back in the day, to great books now like Tom King's "Sheriff of Babylon" work for DC/Vertigo comics.
While a shorter episode, this is still very much a GRAPHIC CONTENT podcast - so along with the typical yammering there is explicit language we use that gives it its rating of NSFW. Jim and Adam, sometimes along with special guests, get-together to chat comics & pop culture every week in a very conversational, loose manner like you would find at your Friendly Local Comics Store(FLCS), and we'd love to have you join the conversation! Hit our show up on Twitter @graphicpodcast with your questions, comments, or if you're a creator with a new project to promote -- we'd love to hear from you!

Graphic Content Podcast Episode 8 | Logan Movie Review
Tuesday Mar 28, 2017
Tuesday Mar 28, 2017
Join Jim, Adam, and special guest Johnathan Wright (author of the Mecha vs. Kaiju RPG) for their thoughts on LOGAN, the last film starring Hugh Jackman in the titular role that started his career in mega-budget blockbusters all those years ago. Listen to what the guys loved about the movie, what they thought were points where it could've been better, and how many Stars... uh... I mean "Claws" out of five they'll score the film. They also speculate what the future of the X-Men franchise could look like for Fox, where Jim offers them some free advice on how to make billions of more dollars down the road.
The GRAPHIC CONTENT PODCAST is available via our host, Podbean.com, as well as iTunes, Stitcher, and just about any other podcatcher worth its salt. Have questions for the guys, or are you a creator that wants free promotion for your project? Then please contact us via Twitter @graphicpodcast, we'd love to hear from you!
PS: We know we skipped episode 7, you can blame Adam for that. He just saw the movie last week, and we just didn't want to wait another week to put this out. Episode 7 will be the first in a two-part spotlight on creator-owned comics, so stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter feeds for news on when those are going to drop...
